This is a report from Beyond (a creative Digital agency) and they propose seven key predictions for what lies ahead, my comments are in red.

  1. The rate of shared content will eventually plateau – whilst true eventually when nothing else can be shared, there is a massive step to go before this.  I would go for sharing will follow the traditional S curve but we have only just climbed on.
  2. Frictionless - or automatic - sharing is here to stay – agree, but there is a load of work to do on FUD and managing expectations
  3. Segmenting friends & connections to selectively share will grow as a key element of social networks – already done, it is the UI that now needs to catch up
  4. Tried and true marketing tactics (i.e. giveaways) will continue to fuel a high volume of consumer sharing – if you mean gamification to pretend I am loyal then yes.
  5. Sharing will expand to include transactions as well as life events and achievements to define a new action-oriented sharing culture – this is what today is about, we are moving to a intention economy world driven by buttons with verbs on Like, Need, Want, Have, Wish ….
  6. The personal motivations for sharing will remain the same – not sure about this as I am not convinced that we know why we share today.
  7. Over time, people will be less overwhelmed with the volume of online of sharing – spot on

Worth reading in full as it well thought through.
