Image

So here is a service that promises to tell you about what the web knows about you or who is searching for you, but it needs you to tell it who you are so it can tell you what you told it back - and you get to pay for it as well. Not the best Digital Footprint service I have uncovered.

playing with Vrank - just not sure it is telling me anything I did not know

Looking at visibility reports http://www.vrank.com/ and in their judgement for something that is not specified I am doing quite well – and when I do everything someone else will come along with a new algorithm and will rate everything differently. Probably tired and cynical

Klout's +K score - does it really have influence?

Image
Online influence measurement is a nascent body of work and tends to focus on identifying "influencers"   Klout who has introduced a new feature they call "+K"   think Google “+1” or Facebook’s “like” button for influence.  At a random guess someone at Klout has realised that any measure of Influence is meaningless without context [what ever that it] but there is a need to establish a link between people, organizations, expertise and subjects. However the output (some determination of Influence) is only as good as the input and the algorithm, which itself needs to determine what is more valuable…. “who influences me or who/ how many do I influence?”   worth reading  From Any to Many: The Collective Influence    http://blog.peoplebrowsr.com/blog/?p=1054

Timelime of your past based on your LinkedIn

Image
LinkedIn has  launched  the LinkedIn Connection Timeline and provides a way to remember people you used to work with throughout the years and see where they are now – how some have changed. The visualization illustrates “the tip of an iceberg” of structured social data could provide when accessible. The obvious next step is for other social graphs that show the timeline of who I connected to, when and the levels of interaction (rather link XOBNI + Memolane) Is there a model?  Brand, loyalty, discussion, marketing, viral, value – probably!

Even Disney understands that collecting data has value....

Image
It has been widely reported that Disney has paid more than $3 million to make US regulators go away after it was revealed several sites once operated by its Playdom games division illegally collected and disclosed personal information from thousands of children.  Disney is probably not at fault since they bought Playdom last year and the abuses seem to have been committed prior to the $563 million (August  2010). According to the  LA Times , the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) claimed that several Disney sites, including an online virtual world called Pony Stars, illegally collected and disclosed personal information. More than 821,000 children kiddies registered with Pony Stars from 2006 to 2010 and 403,000 children provided their information to some of the 19 other virtual worlds operated by Playdom, including 2 Moons, 9 Dragons and My Diva Doll. Playdom's sites harvested children's ages and email addresses during the registration process and allowed them to publicly post
