Complexity has just got a more complex

John Hagel has written an inspiring piece on HBR picking up on the thinking of Drucker in relationship to complexity. Source of thought is here: http://blogs.hbr.org/cs/2013/06/how_drucker_thought_about_comp.html The challenge John lays down is “If we are to successfully adapt to the escalating complexity of our environment, we need to invest more time and energy in exploring institutional innovation ” However, I believe that Innovation is fundamentally a useless word in terms of defining a strategic intent as it has a unique meaning for each person.  "Innovation" words come in many guises, with defined mind sets and siloed understanding.  The corporate (instructional) and early stage businesses use the same words but with very different understandings. Often in corporate life the same word is used to understand or express different outcomes.   Within a corporate mind set I see; Revolution and or revolutionary is typically the person or thing that chang

#FeynLabs = bringing computer science to the next generation

Image
I am a Fish which if judged by the academic system would believe I am stupid. If I were at school today I would rattle with pills, have my own personal counsellor and shrink, which is why I am a part of FeynLabs . Feynlabs is developing a set of unique techniques to accelerate the learning of programming, computer science and computational thinking among young people. If Girls don’t get excited about computing science by 12 they will probably be lost and we lack the teachers to get them on side.   We have just successfully completed our KickStarter with the Team and now have to start to deliver, all and any help welcome.

Digital Footprints and Digital Shadows = It is about me irrespective of the source.

Image source : http://hackcartoonsdiary.com/2009/04/06/psssst/   When writing My Digital Footprint back in 2008 I decided to keep the idea of My Digital Footprint as a single concept and took the time to explain it   I explain that your, our or my "Digital Footprint" is what I say about myself, what others say about me and it is how we react to our content within the community. However, a digital footprint is also about information that electronic devices automatically add to content, location, attention, how I reached something, who sent me the content, who I send it on to etc…   Some are trying to define a digital footprint as what you post and a shadow as what others post about you.   My problem with separating them is that we need a third and fourth one which is about what the algorithm says about the data I post about myself and what the algorithm says about the data I others post about me. To me this becomes too complex so hence I kept the single term. My Digital Footp
